PeatBed is made in Clones, Co Monaghan by Harte Peat Ltd. Harte Peat have been in the peat products business since 1987, and currently supply a range of peat based products both nationally and internationally. These include Mushroom Casing (peat moss for growing mushrooms), Horticultural Peat, Cattle comfort, Turf, and Fibre Peat (used for waste water treatment).

The company employs over 75 people and is run by Tommy O’Harte and his son Aidan.

Tommy says, “I have been involved directly in the peat business for nearly 30 years, but before that I was always involved in agriculture, and to this I day still farm my land in Clones, currently stocking 200 beef cattle.”

Aidan adds, “Growing up as Harte Peat grew, I have always been involved in the peat business, but I studied Dairying in Multyfarnham Agricultural College and have a great interest in this sector.

We have always supplied local farmers and use it ourselves for wintering our cattle, and ensuring they are happy and healthy. But we think that we have come with a great product that is made specifically for dairy farms, which may eliminate some of the problems associated with existing makeing animals comfortable”

Peat Bed

The peat is harvested from bogs using specially designed machinery.

The peat is then brought to our factory where it is screened to obtain the optimum particle size and then mixed with a liming agent. PeatBed can be delivered in bulk or in in semi bulk bags.
